Hannah Marie Orvin
Passed away on October 02, 2023
Hannah Marie Franklin Orvin, 96, died peacefully at The Oaks at Habersham on October 2, 2023, after a long illness. Marie was born and raised in Savannah, GA. She was a passionate seamstress, avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and cats, Rowdy and Angel.
Marie graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy in 1944; attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, graduating in 1948, as a registered Nurse, where she then worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital for much of her career. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church since 1960, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, led prayer group, and the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Marie’s most important achievement was being awarded the Bishop Gartland Service Award in 2015 for her contributions to the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Savannah.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Milton H. Franklin, and Hannah A. Franklin, her loving spouse of 62 years, Carl H. Orvin, Sr., her siblings, Milton, Jr., Selma, Carl, Edwin, Josephine, and John.
She is survived by her 5 children, Carl H. Orvin, Jr. (Janet), Judith M. Orvin, Kathy O. Powell, Carol A. Orvin, and John K. Orvin (Teresa). She was lovingly referred to as “Nana” by her 4 granddaughters, Lanie McDaniel (Jason), Mandy Gunby (Neal), Ashley Ezell (Terry), and Heather Phillips (Kent), and several great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at The Oaks at Habersham, Hospice Savannah, and her caregivers.
Visitation will take place Friday, October 6, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m.
A Catholic Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Marie’s honor to St. James Catholic Church.
All the Orvin family, our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Especially since going through this in March we know how you are feeling. Please know that you all are in our thoughts.

Nana! We have shared so many memories over my entire lifetime!!! I will never forget sitting with you watching British comedies and working on my crafts while you sewed and crocheted. The rice crispies for breakfast, sipping on your fresh iced sprite! Going to sleep to the lions king cd and always pretending to be asleep when you came in! You were the best blue crab picker and gave me all the good stuff and leaving the beach with our friends just to show up and rob you and Poppy of your boiled peanuts for free!!! Nana, we had fun! You were always there for me! You allowed me and Jason to deep clean your house and take you grocery shopping when you ran into the bakery section and knocked the whole thing over and then just walked right away! You, we’re an amazing woman of faith! I will never ever ever forget what you did for me and added the enrichment of my life! I’ll miss all those phone calls I made needing advice!
